Dream of a 'people's car' was quickly punctured

THESE pictures are in essence a story of what might have been if a Grantham MP's dream of producing a 'people's car' had been successful.

In 1944 Dennis Kendall, managing director of BMARC and MP for Grantham, set up Grantham Productions Ltd with the aim of mass-producing two models of a motor car which he planned to be cheap enough for every family to buy.

Unfortunately Mr Kendall was unable to get his project off the ground and only prototype vehicles were ever produced.

The company ended in liquidation in 1947.

The promotional photographs were taken outside the gatehouse at Denton, which at that time was a favourite backdrop for promoting all sorts of goods.
