A ‘straw-some’ creation returned to the Boston area 10 years ago to help launch a children’s book it had inspired.

Manny the straw mammoth first towered into view in a field near Boston West Golf Centre in the summer of 2009.

It was created by farmer Paul Grant and brother-in-law David Sharpe as part of a competition run by Weetabix.

Manny would go on to be immortalised in a book – The Magic of Mammoth Hollow, written by Paul’s mother-in-law Linda Whatton, and helped raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Ten years ago this week, Manny was re-built to celebrate the launch of the book. Pictured are Manny with Anton and Callum Kiss; and above (from left), back, Laura Sharpe, Sophie Grant; front, David and Will Sharpe, Linda Whatton, George Grant.
