ON Monday March 8 at the Playhouse Cinema, Louth Film Club will be screening a Spanish thriller, Fermat's Room — La HabitaciÛn De Fermat.
A group of mathematicians, unknown to each other, is invited to a mysterious get-together, attracted by the prospect of resolving a puzzle.

They find themselves locked in a barn, on an island, and receive phone calls presenting them with mathematical riddles and giving them just one minute to reply with the correct answer.

Each time the minute is up the room they are in shrinks. The riddle becomes how they can save their lives.

In Hollywood films people often find themselves trapped in dangerous situations and Fermat's Room, which was released in 2009, is a European take on the same theme, for those who enjoy the combination of cutting edge excitement and brains.

But you don't need a degree in mathematics to enjoy it.

Fermat's Room, in Spanish with subtitles, is Certificate 12A. The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £3 for members, standard cinema prices (£5.20 or £4.10 concessions) for non-members.

See Louth Film Club's award-winning website (www.louthfilmclub.co.uk) for details of all its 2010/11 screenings.

Or pick up a free programme at the cinema or at Off The Beaten Tracks record shop at 36 Aswell Street, Louth (closed on Thursdays).

You can join the club, which costs just £12 until January 2011, at the shop or before Monday's film at the cinema.
