ON Monday January 11 at the Playhouse Cinema, Louth Film Club will be showing Honeydripper, the latest movie from independent American director John Sayles.

Set in cotton-picking Alabama, back in 1950, the film centres on a live music bar on the outskirts of a town called Harmony.

The Honeydripper Lounge is struggling to attract customers and the town is some way short of harmonious, but the bar's owner has a plan to revive its fortunes, in the shape of the legendary Guitar Sam from New Orleans.

Sayles displays his trademark concerns with social justice, but this is also his most entertaining and satisfying film to date, with a great story, some wonderful music, glistening cinematography and a superb cast, led by Danny Glover.

Honeydripper is Certificate PG. The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £3 for members, standard cinema prices (£5 or £4 concessions) for non-members.
