THE Lincolnshire Show on Wednesday and Thursday, marks its 125th anniversary with a show-stopping show of all that is best about the county – its food, farming, firms and a feast of family fun.
Among the crowds flocking to the showground north of Lincoln will be HRH Princess Anne, guest of honour for this special show, who tomorrow, Thursday, will open the new centrepiece building, the EPIC Centre.
The show has so much to see that you will be hard pressed to fit it all in to one day, so the show is open for 10 hours, 8am to 6pm, on both Wednesday and Thursday.
The anniversary of the show will be reflected in special events and exhibitions, including vintage machinery and the themes of the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society which runs it will be as strongly presented as ever in the farming focus within the livestock lines, machinery displays, competitive classes, pig racing and Nobby, the famous dancing sheep in the Countryside area.
In the extensive food court, TV chef Rachel Green will be inspiring visitors to use the many locally sourced foods available on adjacent stands.
Elsewhere, there is the Kangaroo Kid and jousting knights within packed programmes for arena entertainment, the equestrian village, the horticultural zone, the sports zone and over 600 trade stands selling everything from frying pans to fashion.
The Lincolnshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs are always a favourite attraction, showing off their decorated trailers in the main ring on Wednesday afternoon and entertaining the crowds on Thursday with their annual water fight.
Majestic shire horses will also be showing off their turnouts, ranging from agricultural implements to traditional brewery drays.
For thrilling entertainment, the Kangaroo Kid, world famous quad bike showman, will be in the main ring and there will be jousting in the Countryside Ring with the Black Knight from the Knights of the Damned.
The £6m EPIC Centre – standing for environment, production, innovation, contemplation – is at the heart of the Lincolnshire Showground's 200-acre site. It is an environmental innovation in building that has put Lincolnshire out in front.
Elsewhere, there will a Sports Zone with cricket nets, cycle track racing, rowing and hands-on training tips from the rugby football union, a horticultural zone with gardening tips and everything from garden sheds to vegetable seeds on sale, and try your hand at angling and fly fishing.
In the livestock lines, all the family can see, hear and touch cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, rabbits, poultry and pigs and the four equine rings will be busy with everything from working hunters to welsh ponies whilst nearby there are scores of big boys' toys among the tractors and plant.
