LOUTH Film Club will be screening The Draughtsman's Contract at the Playhouse Cinema on Monday August 11.
Director Peter Greenaway's astonishing debut, made in 1982 and rereleased in 2003, is set towards the end of the 17th Century. Anthony Higgins plays the draughtsman, given an unusual contract by a rich landowner's wife (Janet Suzman), to make 12 drawings of their country estate.
The film is an oddball fantasy, a tale of intrigue, murder and class distinction, with a witty script, lush scenery, extravagant costumes and a memorable musical score by Michael Nyman.
The Draughtsman's Contract, which is Certificate 15, will start at 7.30pm.
Louth Film Club's programme for 2008/9 is available from the Tourist Information Centre, the Playhouse Cinema or Off The Beaten Tracks record shop in Aswell Street, Louth.
