BARNUM is the fun and energetic story of Phineas Taylor Barnum's dream to create a show, staged recently at Riverhead Theatre Louth.
Barnum played by Karl Brown, sets out to find a rag-tagle group of people to create a show that will astound the great American public.
The Playgoers' showed great imagination by creating a set which made Tom Thumb (Connor Bannnister) appear small.
The set towered above Tom Thumb to great comedic effect.
One could even say that Connor rose to the occasion giving a great performance as he danced amongst the giant furniture.
As act one develops the relationship between Barnum and his wife, (Felicity Haslehurst) becomes clearer.
As act two begins we discover that Barnum's life in the circus has been put on hold as he becomes a politician.
The colours that filled his life at the start have all faded to become black and white.
This was beautifully shown by the clever use of set and costume design created by Bob Booth and Jane Blenkhorn assisted by their teams.
There are many twists and turns of fate and it finishes with a joyous conclusion.
This was an ambitious production that Playgoers took on and their enthusiastic approach won over the audience.
The production was ably supported by Tony Blackmore, Musical Director and his band.
Karl Brown's portrayal of PT Barnum himself showed once again that he can take on the most demanding roles and lead the cast as they demonstrated their new found circus skills.
All I can say is 'Roll up, Roll up!' for a splendid evening's entertainment!
