EDITOR – The proposed developing of an eco town by East Lindsey Council at either Strubby or Manby has certainly ruffled the feathers of the 'not in my back yard' brigade.

No doubt many of these bleaters are the same sorry souls who vigorously objected to wind turbines and anything else that smacked of change. Who said the Luddites were dead?

Personally, I don't have an axe to grind on the eco town proposal, as I
can see certain advantages stemming from the scheme. Taxpayers' money coming into the area for one.

What I cannot understand, however, is why East Lindsey Council has been so dormant over the years in trying to secure improvements to the local infrastructure.
Surely to goodness a road straightening programme of the A157 Louth to Mablethorpe road should have been top priority many years ago.

Everyone having to use this road has to drive three miles just to travel two – how stupid is that?
Will this be the fate of the new eco towners if Strubby is designated for development?

Then I would ask how the new eco towners would cycle into Mablethorpe safely without a cycleway.
Surely they wouldn't be expected to risk their lives by gambling on the Maltby Straight, where fatalities have occurred in the past!

Not every eco towner might have a car and some may choose not to use an unreliable bus service.
There is no safe cycling route in this area despite government advice to get the bike out and leave the car at home.

My advice to East Lindsey Council is to work extra hard on improving the local infrastructure. This is the backbone of any community and determines its prosperity.
And finally I would say this, only those people who would wish to live in one of the next eco towns would do so, for I don't envisage anyone being press ganged into moving in, it's as simple as that.
