EDITOR – Re the letter from John Jaines Cockerington. John, I feel you are not aware of the true facts of the last three years on the Louth sporting scene.
Progress, you insist, is the way forward and we should all back ELDC.

On the leisure centre project, well John, I think you are running blind. The truth is £2million is being spent in Grimsby on improving football facilities at Bradley, nearly £1m
at Skegness, and then we come to Louth where £11m is
being spent to destroy the football and recreational area on Wood Lane fields.

I also disagree about the playing surface on Wood Lane which you describe as poor.
There were three, yes three, pitches from 1985 which worked a treat with the pitches being rotated. Now there is only one left, the so-called replacement pitches are totally inadequate small school pitches which can never be brought up to the Wood Lane standard.

Also why did the ELDC not purchase land to accommodate more sports including a running track for the Athletics Club and the leisure centre. In my opinion this will be the biggest sporting and financial disaster Louth has ever witnessed, come on ELDC it is not too late to build the swimming centre elsewhere and leave something that works well for a majority sport and recreation.
