EDITOR – Would you please allow me, through your newspaper, to say a sincere thank you to some wonderful people from Louth.
On Sunday, July 6, my wife and I took part in the Race For Life 2008. My wife jogged round the course whilst I, being unable to run or jog, because of a knee problem, decided I would walk round.
I, unfortunately, am not a quick walker and was out
on the course on my own.
First, I would like to say a very sincere thank you to the lady and two young colleagues from St John's Ambulance who I met on Horncastle Road and offered me a lift back into town (which I graciously declined) and promised to drive further along and wait until I arrived again at Edward Street.
I forgot to say thanks.
When I arrived there, a gentleman who had completed the run was waiting to walk into town with me. This was a most wonderful moment for me, most unexpected, but most welcome.
On getting nearer towards the end, we were joined by another group of finished runners, this time ladies and gentlemen who told me they had come to see me finish and that a crowd were waiting to welcome me back.
When I turned the corner into the finishing straight, I was truly astounded by the number of people who were still there, and gave me a wonderful reception, even though it had taken quite some time, and naturally, I was last to finish.
So to everyone who joined me on the final part of my walk, and everyone who waited at the finish and gave me such a wonderful welcome, I give my heartfelt thanks for making it a wonderful occasion for me.
