EDITOR - I was concerned to read in the Leader that The Ark animal sanctuary at Donna Nook can accept no more unwanted pets at the moment due to lack of funds.
We are all aware of the poor state of the economy but it is unfortunate that this announcement coincides with an expensive fundraising campaign on national television by the RSPCA, particularly following their recent decision to no longer home stray pets.

Doubtless this national organisation will cover the cost of their campaign by increased donations from the public but this will inevitably reduce the funds available to small local charities such as The Ark.

I urge potential donors concerned about animal welfare to remember that charity begins at home and to support local action first and foremost.
