EDITOR - I am writing following your article on the front page regarding the Sainsbury's and car park saga.
Yes Louth is a 'quaint' wee town and has 'quaint' wee shops, however in a recession the majority of people want value for money and want to save money where they can, shops like Sainsbury's can make this happen and people have a choice if they want t
o use their local shops.
We all go on about being green, there is nothing green about having to get in the car and travel to Grimsby using fuel and polluting the air to get a decent shopping now is there?
On the front of the parking issues, this town shouts about looking after smaller businesses, yet pumps God knows how many thousands of pounds into council parking meters when smaller businesses have ample car parks around the town lying empty – talk about hypocrisy.
This town needs a Sainsbury's and a McDonalds and a Pizza Hut, for the young people of this town and to offer value for money to the people not so well off.
It tends to be the 'older generation' putting these appeals in and it is blocking progress for the 21st century.
If something isn't done, Louth wont be 'quaint wee town' in 20 years – it will be a 'ghost town' with empty shops.
