LOUTH Film Club will showcase the charming Japanese comedy drama Departures next week, descibed as a touching, elegant and funny film which has already proved a big hit in the UK.
Departures, winner of the 2009 Foreign Language Film Oscar and of audience awards at several international film festivals, will be screened at the Playhouse Cinema on Monday, October 3.
The plot portrays Diago, an out of work cellist, who answers a job advertisement whose headline suggestes employment in a travel agency but it turns out to be alarmingly different. Desperate, he accepts the post, but keeps its nature a secret from his wife Mika.
Departures is certificate 12A, and the show starts at 7.30pm. Non-members are welcome at the club’s screenings, paying the normal Playhouse ticket prices of £5.70 and £4.50 concessions.
