Christopher Maltman at Louth Film Club
INTERNATIONALLY renowned but locally born and bred opera singer Christopher Maltman will attend Louth Film Club’s exclusive screening of Juan, the spectacular English-language version of Mozart’s Don Giovanni in which he takes the title rôle as the great philanderer.
The film will be shown at the Playhouse Cinema on Thursday May 17 at 7.30pm, to be followed by a question-and-answer session in which Maltman will talk about the making of the film and about his life, from Louth schoolboy to a career as one of the world’s leading baritones.
Juan, a Danish production set in the present day in an anonymous European city (it was filmed in Budapest) is Certificate 15.
You don’t have to be a member of the club to see the film.
Tickets can be bought in advance from Off The Beaten Tracks record shop, 36 Aswell Street, Louth (closed Thursdays), or at the Playhouse Cinema on the night.
They cost £5.90 (£4.70 concessions) for non-members, £3.50 for members.
l On Monday May 14 at the Playhouse Cinema, Louth Film Club will be screening a restored, digital print of Terence Davies’s 1988 masterpiece Distant Voices, Still Lives.
Set in Liverpool in the 1940s and ’50s, this autobiographical drama evokes working-class family life in the director’s home town.It is Certificate 15.
The show starts at 7.30pm.
