International Dawn Chorus Day at local wildlife reserves

TWO local nature reserves are set to take part in International Dawn Chorus Day this weekend.

Gibraltar Point near Skegness, and the Snipe Dales Country Park will both be hosting events this Sunday, May 6.

“Nothing beats the stunning combination of brid song that makes the dawn chorus,” said a spokesperson.

“To make the most of this natural phenomenon, the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust celebrates International Dawn Chorus Day on the first Sunday in May each year.

“The dawn chorus is at its loudest the first hour after sunrise, around 5am, so events start early.

“You can make sense of what you are hearing as experts will be on hand to help you identify which call belongs to which bird, and why they are calling.

“And it simply offers the chance to enjoy and share a wonderful experience,” they added,

The Gibraltar Point event will run from 4am to 7.30am on Sunday and will be followed by a tasty breakfast bap.

Participation is £5 (and includes breakfast bap and tea/coffee).

Booking is essential on 01754 898057.

The Snipe Dales Country Park event will also be held on May 6 from 4.30am.

“Enjoy the wonderful sound of the dawn chorus with species including blackcap, willow warbler and crossbill, plus there’s a possibility of hearing nightingale,” added the spokesperson.
