Music festival set to attract more top acts to town

PEOPLE behind a town music festival have said they hope to build on its success and stage another even bigger event next year.

About 250 people gathered in the gardens of the Priory hotel on Sunday to witness some top acts from the alternative music scene.

Louth music fans Pete Conner, Steve Hendry, Mark Merrifield and Nathan Michael set up the festival and are hoping to stage more in the future.

Mark said: "The music loving public of Louth did us proud and we had great support on the day."

He said the organisers would like to thank all those who helped make the event happen including the Priory Hotel, John Betts Marquees, all the volunteers and the Louth Leader.

Headliner John Otway, who came to the fore during the punk explosion in the 1970s, put in a very funny performance.

He topped off his encore – his unique take on You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet by Bachman Turner Overdrive- with a full somersault from a speaker stack – not bad for a 54-year-old.

Representing the Louth music scene were Mr and Mrs Swing, fronted by Pete Conner, and other acts included Peter Bruntnell, the Slimline Papas, the Dates and Julie Ellison.

Mark said: "It puts Louth on the map as it shows we can put on a big event. A lot of other acts will now take us seriously and we intend to build on it for the future."

Music in The Priory was supported by Lincolnshire Creative Solutions Initiative and Lincolnshire County Council.
