Thrilling big band sounds from Syd

The Syd Lawrence Orchestra continues to thrill audiences all over Great Britain and this Saturday it returns to Grimsby Central Hall as part of a nationwide tour.

Fans will be able to enjoy the orchestra’s exciting blend of high-octane big band swing and classic dance music, perhaps even taking a spin around the floor.

Chris Dean took over leadership of the band when Syd Lawrence retired in 1996 and, under his direction, it has continued to thrive and keep Syd’s invaluable legacy alive.

Chris said: “The music is what people want to hear. Information they can get in books, they come to a concert to be entertained, not to hear a lecture”.

And what music, a repertoire of over 1,200 big band tunes from the likes of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and Count Basie plus hits from the Great American Songbook.

Add a dash of pizzazz, a touch of comedy, the fire and drive of some of today’s finest young jazz musicians, the allure of guest vocalists and it’s easy to see why they are consistently voted the ‘best big band in the land’.

Tickets: 01472 355025.
