Mablethorpe lifeboat crew rode the waves exactly 99 years ago

THIS photo from exactly 99 years ago shows the Mablethorpe Lifeboat Crew at a special exhibition launch on August 21, 1913.

As you can see, the lifejackets the crew are wearing are a million miles away from the space-age technology the volunteers wear today.

However, they would have been much more advanced than the cork-style jacket invented by RNLI captain Ward back in 1954, 59 years previously.

Pictured are back row from left: J Hall, T Lewis, J Michael, T Dunham, H Malkenson, J Jacklin.

Middle row: R Bishop Jnr, R W Bishop (coxswain), Dr J Iredale (Hon Secretary), Field Strawson, W Vickers, D Hardy.

Front row: WM Bishop, F Harness, Marshall Haley, T Blyth.
