This photograph shows Liberal Party leader, the late Jeremy Thorpe, promoting his candidate John Adams in Louth’s Cornmarket during the 1969 by-election campaign, following the death of Conservative MP Cyril Osborne.
The by-election, which took place in early December 1969, was won by young Conservative candidate Jeffrey Archer.
The four interested listeners on the right of the photo were drawn from a nearby coffee bar - are you one of them?
The photograph was taken by Keith Horsewood and published in the Louth Standard in November 1969.
Many thanks to Sally Brown for sharing the photograph on the ‘“Louth Historys and Memories” Facebook page.
