RELIVE the age of steam and pay a visit to Gainsborough Model Railway this Christmas.
The group will be opening its doors to the public next Tuesday, December 27, from 1.30pm-6pm.
This famous ‘O’ gauge model railway, representing the East Coast mainline from Kings Cross to Leeds, has more than 160 locomotives, including such well-known engines as the Flying Scotsman and the Mallard pulling trains such as the Yorkshire Pullman and West Riding Ltd and various local trains.
Visitors can also see a large selection of goods engines and rolling stock all set in the period from the 1930s to the end of steam.
The model railway is all operated to a timetable, with signals and bells as on the real railway, and members have been busy creating new scenery and station buildings at Hitchin. Admission is £4 for adults, £3 child/senior citizens and £10 for a family (2+2) £10.
The GMRS can be found in Florence Terrace, near the south end of Tesco car park.
