EMOTIONS were high at Monday's Town Council meeting when three local residents were given awards for their services to Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea.
Mayor coun Tony Howard surprised skate park campaigner Margaret Codling, Sutton on Sea carnival organiser Jeff Smith and Linkage Trust worker Shelagh Price with the awards at his last official Town Council meeting at mayor.
Tony said: "All three were chosen because they have quietly and selflessly worked very hard for others in the community."
Margaret Codling who fought for years to secure Mablethorpe's new skate park said: "I'm absolutely overwhelmed - it was a total surprise and I was so emotional I nearly cried. It's great to be appreciated by the council but I really didn't need the award because I've had several lads come up to me and say thanks for the skate park which is rewarding enough."
Tony Howard said: "Margaret worked hard to get something in the town for young people and it was of no benefit to her. She is also a tireless worker for animal welfare and charities."
Jeff Smith said: "To receive the award was absolutely wonderful and makes the carnival feel that much more special to me now."
Tony said: "Jeff has brought much fun and entertainment to the area through the carnival over the last six years so his award is highly deserved."
Shelagh Price was honoured for her work with Linkage Green in Mablethorpe – a charity which helps those with learning disabilities. She said: "I was absolutely delighted but I feel Tony should also have a mention for how hard he has worked for the community over the last year." Tony will be finishing his reign as mayor on May 19.
