THE new Mablethorpe marathon committee taking on the challenge of reviving and developing the event held its first meeting on Tuesday last week.
The group are aiming to build on the successes of previous years, but also develop a structure to enable the marathon to remain a regular event on the local calendar and develop its profile with the national running scene.
Committee chair Paddy Prince said members are keen to see developments for next year's marathon scheduled for October 3: "Going into this I was apprehensive about the tasks ahead and the enormity of what we may be taking on, but I believe we have a first class team of people whose links in the community re-ensure me that these events really will be supported across the board, and the experiences people bring to the table is first class."
Sub committees will focus on race management, volunteer management, finance and fundraising management. They will also work closely with both statutory and community groups to ensure the event showcases 'the unique Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea spirit.'
The new committee consists of: Coun Paddy Prince (Chair), Coun Tony Howard (Vice Chairman), Lynne Lamb (Treasurer), Debbie Prince and Zoe Bloomfield (Secretary), Town Centre Manager Karen Froggatt (Publicity and Promotions), Gordon Leesley (Communications), Keith Lamb (Runners Liaison Officer/Website), Rob Parker (Race Director), The Boatshed (Registration), Sarah Goodley (Head Marshall), Maddy Gledhill, Terry Stow and Adam Beniston.
The committee offered thanks to James Turner, East Lindsey District Council Club and Volunteer Officer, for his advisory role on volunteers; and Clare Freeman, ELDC Senior Arts and Events officer, for her advisory role on event management.
