THE future for young people in Mablethorpe is looking brighter after a new £100,000 youth centre opened in the town on Monday
The centre, situated on the Tennyson High School site, encompasses a state-of-the-art music studio, drama and dance room, youth café and internet café.

It is the result of a collaboration between various government bodies and local young people who gave presentations to the town council on what facilities they wanted for Mablethorpe.

Paddy Prince project manager for Children's Services at Lincolnshire County Council said: "This new development is fantastic for Mablethorpe and it is a credit to the efforts of many young people that the money for the project was secured."

"Mablethorpe now has a facility to cater for the needs of different young people and offer opportunities not previously available." He added: "This has shown young people can make things happen for the better in their own communities."

Laura Archer Youth Development Worker at Children's Services said: "We are very proud of the efforts of the young people involved in the funding bid that enabled the building of this facility. We're now looking forward to working with them as well as welcoming new members here."

The centre is open after school hours five days a week to all young people aged 13 to 19 years, with special events planned for children aged 11 to 13 years.

Mr Prince concluded: "There will also be an opportunity for adult community groups and individuals to access the facilities."
The youth centre was co-funded by the national government initiative Youth Capital Fund and Extended Opportunities at LCC.
