THIS month sees the launch of the O Degrees Festival, which will bring together the annual Music Festival, the Spout Yard-sponsored Art Festival, choral events in St James, and the Louth Food Festival.
The Festival begins on Saturday June 23 with the Louth Male Voice Choir singing with the Reading Male Voice Choir at St James Church and the finale will be the Louth Food Festival on Sunday July 15.
Alan Mumby, chair of the Louth Town Partnership Festival committee, explained: “We decided on O Degrees partly because we feel not enough is made of the fact that Louth is on the Greenwich Meridian Line, bestriding the eastern and western hemispheres. And it’s an ‘off the wall’ name that will get people talking, which is what we want!”
Town Partnership Co-ordinator, Sam Phillips, said: “We’re really excited about the idea of making Louth a Festival town. We want to get a real buzz going, to harness all the energy and talent there is in the town, and to make the Festival something that we can all be proud of. We hope that local businesses will recognise that the Festival will bring increased prosperity to the town and so support us. I’d also like to encourage people and organisations that would like to take part in the O º Festival to get in touch with me.”
