The all-clear has been given to a bumper pay-off awarded to a director who was shown the door by East Lindsey District Council.
Both the District Auditor and some councillors raised concerns at the £80,000 awarded to Jane Froggatt when she was made redundant 18 months ago.
ELDC has no formal procedures for so-called compromise agreements and the sum was decided by former chief executive Nigel Howells after consultations with the human resources department. A report has deemed the pay-off as ‘reasonable’ - not least because it saved the authority potential cost and reputational risk in the event of having to defend a legal challenge if Ms Froggatt had chosen to take the matter to a tribunal. The same document has recommended ELDC should draw up a written framework for the future.
