A LINCOLNSHIRE Health Care Trust has admitted to the loss of 26,000 people's personal details.
In October, it was reported that two memory sticks containing personal details of people using the NHS Lincolnshire Phoenix smoking cessation service were missing from a drawer at the organisation's office based in Lincoln.

The information contained names and addresses, telephone numbers and dates of birth along with their NHS numbers and details of client's smoking cessation programme such as Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

The Phoenix Smoking Cessation is run by NHS Lincolnshire and visit hospitals and GP's throughout the whole of Lincolnshire.

The Police were informed of the missing data by NHS Lincolnshire and an investigation was launched.

NHS Lincolnshire chief executive John McIvor said: "We take issues of information security very seriously and have rigorous information security policies in place.

"As soon as we became aware of the suspected data loss, we immediately reported it to the police.

"Given the many thousands of contacts our staff have with clients, all of which involve the use of records and information, NHS Lincolnshire has a very good track record in information management.

"It is most regrettable that this situation has occurred as it falls below our usual high standards."

For more information contact the helpline set up on 0845 603 0897.
