Thursday 8am - A RETIRED PE teacher from Fulstow has brought smiles to the faces of countless children in Botswana.
She had handed them more than 50 football shirts donated by fellow villagers and other well-wishers.
Mary Simons, of Casswell Crescent, wanted to help orphaned children at the Bana Ba Letsatsi school in Maun, Southern Africa.
Her mission was to bring some happiness to the youngsters and get them more involved with this summer's World Cup in South Africa.
Many of the school's children have lost their parents to the massive AIDS epidemic which is rife across the continent.
Mary first started helping the school following a safari visit four years ago.
She often takes with her pens and pencils, but this time she launched a local appeal for the football shirts.
Mary said: "The variety of tops handed out meant names such as Henry, Beckham, Jagielka, Lampard, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Ballack were playing alongside local Lincolnshire boys of Simons, Wragg, Hanny and Cass."
