Thursday 8am - A LOCAL teacher got a deserving send off after more than 30 years' service to a primary school.
Retiring Chris Gardener joined Utterby Primary School in 1974 and 34 years later on Monday he said a final goodbye to the pupils and staff at the school.

The small school presented the infant class teacher with £250 of B&Q vouchers, along with a bottle of whiskey, his favourite type of tipple.

The celebration, which went on past school hours, saw ex-pupils come and say hello and goodbye to Chris.

Headteacher Sarah Hall said: "He was a valued member of staff which is evident in such a good send off. The day has gone really well, it has been lovely. I think he has thoroughly enjoyed himself".

And to mark the end of his last playtime, Chris presented the school with an old fashioned school bell that he had engraved.
