A MASSIVE fundraising day is being organised for Louth baby Harvey Phillips who has been fighting for his life after contracting meningitis.
Nine-month-old Harvey was rushed to The Sheffield Children's Hospital on June 24 when his mum Lisa found him in his cot colourless and lifeless after failing to wake up for his morning bottle.
Lisa was staying in Sheffield with her sister Claire when Harvey became ill.
As part of his life saving treatment surgeons had to amputate both of Harvey's legs above the knee, his right hand and forearm and some fingers on his left hand last Thursday.
Following the amputations Harvey's parents Darren and Lisa, of Arundel Drive, said: "We are being strong for him."
On Monday Harvey was transferred to a normal ward from intensive care.
Doctors told Darren and Lisa it was the worst case of meningococcal meningitis they had seen in 15 years.
The doctors added Harvey is lucky to be alive.
After The Leader first broke the news of Harvey's illness two weeks ago there has been a massive response from the public.
Now a fundraising event for Harvey is to be held on Saturday August 27 at Cordeaux School field.
It is hoped Harvey will be out of hospital and well enough to attend.
The day is being organised by family friends and landlords of My Father's Moustache pub in Louth Stephen Greasby and Melanie Cannetti.
All the money raised will be donated to a trust fund for Harvey who will need financial help following his operations.
A meeting is being held at My Father's Moustache in North Holme Road on Tuesday July 26 from 8pm for any volunteers who want to help with the fun day.
Stephen and Melanie said: "It would be brilliant if any local celebrities could participate."

How you can help

* Cash donations can be paid into the Lloyds TSB bank in Mercer Row or Eastgate where an account has been set up for Harvey by his auntie Luan Atkinson who is an employee.

* Prize donations for the fun day should be addressed to Harvey Phillips and taken to My Father's Moustache or The Louth Leader office at 12 Cornmarket for the attention of receptionist Lisa Wilkinson.
