Saturday 8am - THEY have been described as looking like 'something out of Doctor Who' and elegant 'gymnasts' - but like them or loathe them the Conisholme wind turbines are here to stay.
Construction of the wind farm at Conisholme Fen, near Louth, was completed recently.
There are four rows of five turbines - 20 in all - running along the Marsh landscape.
One resident of Conisholme, who did not wish to be named, told us: "When I first saw them they reminded me of gymnasts – they are so elegant. They really are an incredible engineering feat.
"No-one wants it in their own back yard but sometimes these things have to be. I don't mind them at all; they add sculpture to the landscape."
Work on the wind farm started last year after years of debate over the project.
Residents who opposed the construction joined protest groups fearing the impact it would have on the landscape.
Energy firm Ecotricity says the wind farm will give power to 13,000 households and save the annual emission of nearly 45,000 tones of pollutants.
A spokesperson for the company said: "We're pleased to say we've finished the build. It's been a long process – over five years since we first suggested the idea of building a wind park here. "It's our biggest wind park to date and we're proud of the way it looks. And glad to hear local people are too.
"The wind park will make a big contribution – generating enough green electricity to power over 13,000 homes, every year for the next 30 years."
Here are some of your views on the wind turbines -
* "They look like something out of Doctor Who - a row of blooming great Daleks. They're out of this world. I think they should be exterminated" - David, Louth.
* "To put wind turbines near people's homes is not on. People complain about the noise of the turbines flashing rouns at night. It can disturb people" - Mark Heath.
"Aesthetically they are not offensive but I am still unconvinced they are a viable energy producer. Efficiency levels are minimal and make no difference. I think it is a political smoke screen, vote winning with visual inventions. They say they are enough to power 20,000 homes, but what constitutes a home? Is it a one bedroom flat or a mansion? It's political garbage" - Jonathan Tebbs, Conisholme.
"I am in favour of them. I don't mind sacrificing with the look because it's green power. I come from an industrial area and spent my childhood living next to a power station and I would rather have these than an industrial estate. They have no effect on my animals and I can't hear them. I have researched them and I watch them. They turn all the time so they must be doing their job" - Sean Dawson, Conisholme.
So that just leaves one question - who would win in a battle between the Daleks and the wind turbines?
We think it's too close to call!
