Tuesday 11am - BUDGET cuts for Hubbard's Hills mean 'the all important trees will not receive the attention they urgently require' according to Louth Heritage Group.
East Lindsey District Council confirmed in a meeting with the group budget cuts will leave only enough funds for grass cutting and emptying bins.
It comes after the district council - which is currently responsible for maintaining the park – voted to reduce the maintenance budget by almost £10,000 in March after district councillors decided to hand the site back to Louth Town Council.
The current budget for the park is more than £30,000 a year. This year it will be reduced to £22,000.
Spokesperson for the Louth Heritage Group, Kate Levey said: "We are in despair this treasured attraction and beauty spot is being neglected.
"A lot of people have fond memories of Hubbard's Hills - it isn't exclusive to Louth; it is there for the whole district. If we are not careful we will sleepwalk into losing it".
The district council says the handover will be done over a three year period, where ELDC will reduce the budget annually until April 2010 and the town council will make up the remaining amount of the budget.
A spokesperson for ELDC said: "We will continue to work with the town council until April 2010. We want to work with them to ensure the site continues to be maintained well".
