Thursday 11am - THE ban on dogs being allowed in Louth's London Road cemetery looks set to be tightened.
At a town council meeting, most members seemed to agree the existing control order needed to be reworded to make it more enforceable.
However, a final decision was put on hold pending further consideraion on whether similar restrictions should be reinforced in other parts of the town such as sections of Hubbard's Hills.
Coun Margaret Ottoway said no member of the public would like to see the grave of a loved one 'fouled by dog dirt'.
Agreement came fron Coun Tony Lione who described how he had once witnessed the outcome when a contractor elsewhere had inadvertently hit excrement with grass strimmer.
"The poor chap's face was covered," he recalled.
Coun Eileen Ballard said it was unfortunate that relatives were restricted from taking dogs on visits to the graves of loved ones who had perhaps kept pets themselves.
However, she cited with disapproval instances of inconsiderate dog owners who sometimes allowed their animals to harrass children without a word of apology or any attempts to control them.
