MOBILE phone giant O2 is planning to put a phone mast on top of Louth County Hospital.
An application has been made to East Lindsy District Council and it will be considered in the near future.
Martin Appleby, acting head of facilities at the hospital, said there is one other mast on the hospital roof but the amount the telephone companies pay was commercially confidential.
Mr Appleby said it is safe to put masts on the roof even though mobile phones cannot be used near some sensitive medical equipment.
