Friday 11.20am - EMMERDALE star Patrick Mower has urged the community to support the Louth and District Hospice Appeal - as the countdown to building work begins.
Actor Patrick, who lives near Louth, has agreed to back the appeal to get a hospice built off the A16 in Louth and a personal message from him appears in a new brochure designed to get businesses and individuals supporting the project.
Patrick said: "When illness affects us or someone we love, our first thought is to secure the best and most appropriate care. When the illness is life threatening, and perhaps long term, the importance of being near to family and friends cannot be overestimated.
"That is why I believe so strongly that Louth needs a hospice."
Speaking to volunteers and supporters at the appeal's new office at Agriculture House, in Bolingbroke Road on the Fairfield Industrial Estate, he said he looked forward to the opening of the 'sensational' hospice.
He said: "I will visit people to try to bring a ray of sunshine to their lives. Let's keep going to raise the money."
He officially launched the new brochure which gives details of the hospice project and how people and businesses can help with donations.
The move to a new office, near to the site where the hospice will be built, has been sponsored by a private donor.
The appeal is now looking to the community to give a new surge of donations and support so enough money is in place for building work to begin before the end of the year.
It is hoped the hospice will open in 2009.
Patrick Mower has been a familiar face on the samll screen for decades.
He appeared in TV shows Callan, Special Branch, Target, UFO, The Sweeney and many more.
He has played Rodney Blackstock in popular soap Emmerdale for the last eight years.
