Wednesday 8am - TWO Louth women have launched a campaign for creativity to come to Louth by building an Arts Centre in the town – and they need the public's support.
Art fanatics Jayne Fletcher-Tomlinson and Alison Mackenzie–Taylor are spearheading the campaign to create a place for people of an 'arty mind' to go to.
Jayne, Editor of new Louth art magazine Mock the Flock said: "There is not one place for someone to go to if they are of an arty nature but for it to go ahead we need to show that the idea is backed by the public.
"We have an online petition and have also been doing the rounds ourselves.
"There is a definite hole that needs filling and if people strongly believe in it, it could be a great benefit to the town".
The proposed centre will concentrate on anything creative from painting and sculpture to music, theatre and comedy for everyone's mutual benefit.
Both Jayne and Alison have been meeting with authorities, fellow art enthusiasts and walking the streets of Louth in a bid for support.
And it appears that most people are enthusiastic about the idea.
"We have been surprised by the amount of people who say they want it" added Jayne.
Their petition is on the advice of East Lindsey District Council who is in full support of the idea.
James Gilbert, Communications Officer for the Council said: "We think it is a great idea for an arts centre to be built in the town, but we need to know there is wider support. Then we can work together on it. "Once that is done we can take the opportunity to look at funding. We recommend that people who want this join forces together".
The plan is in the early stages of development but if successful a disused building will be renovated or a completely new site will be built.
One idea is Louth Swimming Pool on Riverhead Road once it is defunct. They are also looking at the Old Louth Telephone Exchange in Northgate and the Manor House in Upgate.
If decided on a new building the Cattle Market Site is also an option.
