Friday 11.10am - WORK has begun to upgrade Hubbard's Hills prior to the formal transfer of management from East Lindsey District Council to Louth Town Council.
In the wake of a long running row between the two authorities, town councillor Andrew Leonard said: "I clambered all over them - now they've finally given in and agreed to do the work."

A budget of £30,000 has been allocated for projects over the winter which include repairing the derelict shelters and tree management activities.

At a town council meeting Coun Leonard describe the productive discussions he had had with ELDC's portfolio holder for amenities, Coun Dick Edginton, and parks and grounds chief Roy Ormsby about ensuring refurbishment was to the highest standard.

A Hubbard's Hills management company has been set up, with a view to establishing a charitable trust, subject to approval by the Charities Commission - possibly early in the new year.

According to Coun Leonard, an advert will then be placed in the local press inviting assistance from anyone interested in becoming involved with the future of the much cherished beauty spot.

Coun John Gains urged there should be not too much cosmetic tampering with the appearance of the hills. He said: "Let nature take its course".

Coun Leonard agreed, saying advice was already being taken from those with expertise in wildlife and habitat management.

He pledged: "Hubbard's Hills will not change".

During 2009-10 ELDC will provide either a grant of £10,000 or labour to that value towards maintenance of the beauty spot.

After Easter 2010 the town council will take over all responsibilities for upkeep.
