Louth Town Council has officially elected its new mayor and deputy mayor for the coming year, with a new face at the helm.

Councillor David Wing took over as mayor from Coun Jill Makinson-Sanders on Friday night, and Coun Andrew Leonard became his deputy.

Coun Wing was selected for the role in March and told the Leader he’d be putting his all into making Louth’s market bigger and better.

Coun Wing, a member of Louth Independents who has served the St Mary’s ward for seven years, said he is delighted to take up the role.

Though this year both mayor and deputy mayor were selected without past experience, from next year the future mayor will spend a year as deputy before stepping up to the full role.
