Alford Royal British Legion wins County Cup

The Alford branch of The Royal British Legion held their annual social evening recently where various awards and cheques were presented.

The Royal British Legion’s Lincolnshire County’s ‘Sheppard Cup’ is awarded annually to the branch which achieves the highest increase in membership and, for their tireless efforts in attracting and encouraging new members over the past year.

This year the Alford branch won the cup and was presented by Tony Goodwin (Lincolnshire County Chairman) to Alan Jenkinson (Alford Branch Chairman).

A long service certificate was also awarded to Joan Stapleton in appreciation of her fundraising efforts over the years for The Poppy Appeal. Val Bradnam, Alford branch treasurer, presented a cheque for £500 on behalf of the Alford branch to Tony Goodwin, which will go towards the County’s Welfare Fund.

Christine Clark, on behalf of fundraisers in Mumby, handed a cheque to the value of £300 to John Johnson, Poppy appeal organiser.
