Kart racer Lucas Vaus,13, from Louth has scored a strong result at the pre-Super 1 British Championship racing circuit at Shennington nr Banbury, Oxfordshire last week.
Vaus, who has just recently signed with CRM Racing from North London in preparation for the 2014 British Super 1 championships.
Team owner and principle, Chris Rogers is without doubt the UK’s greatest kart racing driver of all time, racing against the likes of Lewis Hamilton at Pfi in 1995/1996 where Chris took the title away from Hamilton in a nail biting race.
With a huge entry of over 41 drivers from all parts of the UK, Vaus qualified well in the four heats to put his Tonykart on P7 for the main 12-minute final.
Minutes before the amin race a strogn shower meant all the team were frantically changing the karts to a complete wet set up.
On the opening lap Vaus mpoved up from 7th to 3rd place, on lap 4 Vaus moved up to 2nd place and started to catch his team mate Steffan Charalambous from Kent who had a 1.4 sec lead.
On the penutlimate lap, the top 3 drivers caught up the back markers and worked their way through towards the chequered flag with a mixture of skill and good luck.
Steffan took the win, Josh Skelton from Cumbria taking the 2nd spot and Lucas Vaus, 0.15 seconds behinds for 3rd place.
This was a great results for Lucas amongst a top field of older drivers, the wet conditions worked in our favour as he performs extremely strong in these challenging conditions.
