Athletes join elite programme

SIX top sportsmen and women from the Louth area have been officially welcomed onto the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme.

They were amongst 61 athletes at The Showroom in Lincoln awarded levels by three time Olympian and canoeist Laurence Oliver according to their achievements over the last 12 months and for their potential for the year ahead.

Local stars are fencer Amber Moss, Pentathlon athlete Rebecca Dunning, athlete Rosie Marshall, equestrian rider Fern Pickard, golfer Ashton Turner and Para-Triathlete Liz McTernan.

Managed by Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, LEAP provides funding and support for talented athletes in the county who are hoping to compete at an Olympic or Paralympic Games.

Rachel Belcher, LEAP Project Officer at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said: “We are delighted to have so many athletes from Louth on LEAP this year and look forward to seeing how they progress throughout the next 12 months.

“LEAP hopes to give athletes across the county access to funding and support at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, so we really hope that all six athletes from Louth benefit from this.”

Athletes on the programme will receive between £100 and £1000 according to their level and up to £20,000 will be distributed to members of LEAP in 2012.
