The Barkwith and district Gardeners Association annual late Summer Evening Show is to be held at the village hall on Friday 30th August and schedules are now available from Davis and Sally Ward at the village post office or the chairman of the Gardeners Committee Sheila Minns, It is open to anyone living within a seven mile radius of the village and to all members and there are sections for flowers, vegetables, floral art plus an added extra –photography, which is being included this year as the spring show in which the section normally appears had to be cancelled due to the late spring and exceptionally cold weather.
There are trophies for the exhibitor with the most points in the flower, floral art and vegetable sections, for the best dahlia, the best fuchsia in a pot and the best exhibit in the photography section and special prizes for the longest runner bean and the heaviest marrow.
Exhibits can be entered on the day from 5pm to 6pm when judging will commence prompt at 6.15pm. The small hall will reopen at 7.15pm when tea and biscuits will be served with the exhibits open to view by the public before the presentation of the awards.
There are indoor monthly meetings of the Barkwith and district Gardeners Association during the summer but the regular programme of coach outings organised by Les Robinson continues and meetings will resume on Friday 27th September in the village hall at 7.30pm. Mr Dave Newman will be the speaker on ‘Autumn in the Garden’.
