Mablethorpe man Barrie Siddons is getting set to travel half way across the world to America to run in a half marathon, raising funds for charity.
The 74-year-old took part in the Brooklyn Rock n Roll 10K event last year and this year’s half marathon is happening again in Brooklyn, but this time he’s lacing up his running shoes in Bay Ridge.
Following a long career of running events throughout his life, this is his 40th marathon event, a milestone he has always aimed at getting to.
Being the veteran runner that he is, Barrie also enjoys raising funds for charity with each race that he takes part in, this time around he is raising funds for Get Kids Going. This will be Barrie’s first time running this half marathon in Bay Ridge and is one he is really looking forward to.
“I’m really looking forward to running in the Bay Ridge Half Marathon, flying back over to Brooklyn is great and I’m also exciting to be doing a bit of sight seeing whilst I am there,” Barrie explains.
“I’ve never ran this race before, so it will be great to add this new experience to my list of marathons and enjoy a different atmosphere.
“I’m feeling fit and ready for the race after I’ve been running between 30/34 miles each week and I am happy with the timings I am running the distance in.”
Barrie will be jetting off to the USA at the end of September, ready for the Bay Ridge Half Marathon which takes place on Saturday, October 4 and will make-up part of his six day trip.
But there is still time to sponsor Barrie to help raise some last minute funds for Get Kids Going, which supports children with disabilities in their sporting endeavours.
To sponsor Barrie, just call Get Kids Going on 020 7481 8110 and quote Barry Siddons taking part in the Bay Ridge Half Marathon.
Look out for the Leader in the coming weeks when we will have an update on Barrie’s marathon journey in the USA.
