BEACHES at Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea can once again claim to be among the cleanest in the world after once again being recognised for awards.

The two have added Blue Flag and Quality Coast Awards from Keep Britain Tidy to last week’s Good Beach Guide award.

36 beaches achieved both awards this year out of 142, and only four in Lincolnshire including Skegness and Cleethorpes.

The Blue Flag award demands the highest standards of water, facilities, safety, environmental education and management and the Quality Coast Award recognises top beach management.

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Phil Barton, said he would urge more holidaymakers to take advantage of Lincolnshire’s beaches this summer.

East Lindsey District Councillor Craig Leyland added: “Blue Flag and Quality Coast status is another important accolade for the coastal resorts of Skegness, Mablethorpe and Sutton on sea and we’re immensely proud of the area’s success.

“Both awards are about quality and this places our coast as one of the best for cleanliness and a good visitor experience.”
