Governors at Birkbeck College in North Somercotes have voted to join Tollbar Family of Academies’ Multi Academy Trust.
The move comes after Birkbeck was put into special measures by Ofsted.
The transfer process to join Tollbar Multi Academy Trust is currently in the hands of the Department for Education, and it is hoped that it will formally become a member of the Trust by October 2015.
In the interim period, the Principal of Cleethorpes Academy, Martin Brown, has taken over the Headship at Birkbeck College, beginning this month.
Tollbar Family of Academies opened Cleethorpes Academy in 2010 after the closure of Lindsey School. Five years on, the Academy has just received a “Good” rating in every category.
Tollbar Family of Academies’ Chief Executive, David Hampson, said: “We are very pleased that the Governors of Birkbeck College have voted to join Tollbar Family of Academies.
“Our success is attributed to an effective model of school improvement, which we replicate in all of our member Academies and which has proven results.
“We have proven that with a tremendous amount of hard work and excellent staff we can deliver an exceptional education and we intend to give the students in North Somercotes these same opportunities.”
• A public meeting will take place at Birkbeck College, North Somercotes, on Wednesday June 10 at 7pm to discuss the college’s application to convert to Academy status. All are welcome.
