A FUN Night will be held at St Helen’s Church, Burgh on Bain, on Saturday October 29 as the village works towards raising the funds needed to finalise the work to adapt St Helen’s into a community centre.
Donations of goods for stalls and prizes will be appreciated as well as cash donations.
The archdeacon told parishioners seven years ago that they should work towards adapting St Helen’s to provide a centre for the whole community and this ambitious project was adopted with enthusiasm.
There is no village hall, pub or shop for people to meet and chat in.
The first phase was to create space by the removal of some pews, to lay water on and drainage and to install a new heating system.
Grant aid of £7,500 from the Lincolnshire Wolds Countryside Service and £10,000 from the National Churches Trust enabled this work to go ahead and now £12,000 has been offered by Lincolnshire County Council subject to various conditions.
One of the conditions is that the community can raise the remaining funds needed to complete the project.
At present £8,000 is needed and new flooring has to be provided, with a disabled toilet with baby changing facilities and a small kitchenette.
