Sixth annual Mablethorpe jobs fair brings visitors from all corners

PEOPLE from across the region flocked to Mablethorpe on Friday for the sixth annual jobs fair, held at the Community Hall.
Over 500 people attended the free fair, organised jointly by East Lindsey District Council and Job Centre Plus, in the hope of finding work.
Twenty one employers including Butlins, Linkage Community Trust, Lincolnshire Co-operative, Clarriots Home Care, and the armed forces were present with exhibitions and experts were on hand to give advice to the public.
June Jones, of Job Centre Plus, said: “It was a very successful event.
“Approximately 550 people attended from throughout East Lindsey. We also had people attend from Lincoln, Boston, Grimsby, even as far as Birmingham and Sheffield.”
As previously reported by the Leader, 369 people were claiming jobseekers allowance in the Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea parish in December, a rate of 5.2 per cent of unemployment, well above the East Lindsey average of four per cent.
Advice on training and volunteering opportunities was also available through Mablethorpe TCR College of Hair and Beauty and the Mablethorpe Boatshed.
East Lindsey District Council Leader, Coun Doreen Stephenson, said: “This was an important event for Mablethorpe and the surrounding area to bring local people together with employers and training providers.
“Working with Job Centre Plus we are keen to highlight the job opportunities that are available and help people to develop new skills.
“We must continue to work hard to extend the tourist season along the coast to create more sustainable jobs for the local community and new business opportunities.”
June Jones added that many exhibitors reported that the fair had exceeded their expectations and that she had already received requests for booking stalls at next year’s event.
