ACCLAIMED butchers Lakings of Louth picked up a hatful of awards at last week’s regional British Pork Executive finals at Newark.

The Eastgate butchers earned seven golds and five silvers as well as three outright category wins for entries including stuffed chine, dry cured short back bacon and home made lasagne.

Also enjoying outstanding success on the night were Trevor Fairburn butchers of Mercer Row in Louth, who picked up no fewer than five golds and three silvers.

Just last month the two firms went head to head in the regional finals of the Best British Banger award with Lakings coming out on top on that occasion.

One of the key reasons behind Lakings’ win was employee Pauline French who made the pies and lasagne. Chris Smith, Lakings shop manager, told the Leader: “We’re very excited to continue our run of success as we were up against a variety of products.

“All of our staff have contributed to this latest success.”

The awards night was held at Newark Showground last Wednesday and over 30 butchers and farm shops entered 219 products overall.
