£1,000 for Louth summer festival in latest round of councillor grants

Louth’s summer Zero Degrees Festival has been given a £1,000 shot in the arm thanks to Councillor Laura Stephenson (pictured).

In the latest round of East Lindsey District Council community grants it has been announced that the festival, running from June 21 to July 14, will receive the cash to fund publicity material.

The festival will act as an ‘umbrella’ to promote the many existing events being held in the town during that time, as well as adding to the programme with new events.

Other local groups have benefited from the latest councillor grants too, including Louth Wolds Scouts who have received £250 from both Coun Sarah Dodds and Coun Philip Sturman for the purchase of tents.

Coun Sarah Dodds has also awarded £400 to the Trinity Centre in Louth to contribute towards the costs of an outing to Mablethorpe for the weekly Fish on Friday’s group. The money will also go towards additional publicity for the Credit Union group which is stationed at the centre.

She also donated £350 to the East Lindsey Domestic Abuse Service to contribute towards the cost of summer activities and day trips for children.

Meanwhile the village phone box in Welton le Wold will be restored thanks to a £450 grant from Coun Adam Grist and in Tetney Coun Tony Bridges has given £450 to the local bird group to pay for bird boxes and wildlife facilities.

Coun Daniel Simpson has handed £400 to Asterby Goulceby Ranby Parish Council to provide a seating area for visitors using the Viking Way and £581 to the South Willingham Parish Council for the purchase of a defibrillator and container.

Over on the coast Couns Paddy Prince and Tony Howard have given a total of £489.25 to the RNLI in Mablethorpe for the purchase two wind chaser flags and further information material which will promote the souvenir shop.

Coun Graham Cullen has awarded £150 to the 1st Mablethorpe Scout Group for the hiring of activity equipment and resources for a St George’s Day celebration. and Coun Howard has given £200 to Mablethorpe Area Partnership to contribute towards the cost of an extra BMX mountain bike team display for the Mablethorpe Motorcycle Festival on March 15.

The village green in Trusthorpe, which has been unused for several years, will be brought back to life thanks to £550 from Coun Stuart Watson to provide maintenance.

An Coun Watson has also given £500 to Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe Carnival to contribute towards the costs of stewards, signs, marching bands and transport.
