Breaking news: Lindum housing project to be decided in May
Lindum Developments want to build 180 houses on land off Golf Road in Mablethorpe.
A full planning application for Lindum to build 180 houses on land off Golf Road in Mablethorpe is expected to be decided in May this year.
The £50 million project’s outline planning permission was granted by East Lindsey District Council in March 2012 after a dramatic u-turn, as it was originally turned down by the same planning committee just four months earlier.
It caused controversy with local residents setting up rival campaigns, both for and against the development when the word of the plans first came about.
The next phase of the project is going full steam ahead now that Lindum has submitted their full planning application to deliver affordable housing to the resort.
Paul McSorley, director of Lincoln-based Lindum Developments, is expectant that the housing element of the project will be decided in the coming months and he feels ‘confident’ that the final proposals will be approved.
“We expect to hear a decision on the housing application at the end of May,” Paul explained.
“I am confident that the plans will be approved as affordable housing in Mablethorpe is clearly needed.
“We have worked hard on improving the plans and we want this housing to be available to local people.
“Hopefully this project will be something we can deliver and be proud of.”
Included in the project were also accompanying plans to build a supermarket, pub, petrol station and care home, but these plans will be implemented into an application and submitted to the district council at a later stage.
Mr McSorley also explained that other projects such as a supermarket and a petrol station are embedded into the plans but will work on a ‘phase by phase basis’.
“Our main priority at this stage is to deliver affordable housing to the community, other projects within the plans will follow,” he said.
What are your thoughts on the housing plans? Do you think a substantial amount of affordable housing is needed?
