Study into Louth supermarket provision

A STUDY is to be carried out to see if Louth needs a new supermarket.

East Lindsey District Council has appointed Nathanial Lichfield to carry out the study looking at whether there is a need for ‘increased food retail provision’ in Louth, Alford and Horncastle.

The study will also assess the potential impact on each town and if a need is found identify the most appropriate sites for such development.

The findings of the study will provide evidence for the Local Plan and enable the council to ‘objectively assess any planning applications which it may receive for new retail schemes affecting the towns’.

Coun Craig Leyland, portfolio holder for economy and planning, said: “The district council is asked to make some very difficult planning decisions about supermarket provision in market towns and we need this detailed research to help us make informed decisions on these applications.”
